Social investment
We implemented social investment initiatives throughout the project’s exploration and early development period and in 2019 we developed a new social investment strategy (SIS) to guide social investment efforts during the project’s construction period.
Beyond the Project SIS, our social investment efforts will increasingly align with the goals of the TotalEnergies Group’s Foundation. This Foundation focuses on four thematic areas, namely: road safety, youth inclusion and education, forests and climate, and cultural dialogue and heritage.
Social investment strategy
We are committed to playing our role in supporting and broadening socio-economic development at the local, regional and national level. We have developed a SIS that aligns with the development priorities identified in Mozambique’s Action Plan for the Reduction of Absolute Poverty, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and the project’s environmental, social and health impact assessment as described in the ESHIA Executive Summary.
Our SIS is implemented in partnership with the Government of Mozambique, development organizations, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders. The key objectives of the SIS are to:
- Drive socio-economic development programs that deliver tangible, short- and medium-term outcomes for communities in the project area of influence, the Palma District, and Cabo Delgado Province
- Align with key priorities of stakeholders, including local government and communities in the Palma District Complement our social and environmental impact management plans
To achieve these objectives, the SIS identifies three focal categories. Explore these categories below:
