Environmental licensing
An environmental impact assessment (EIA) was undertaken for both the Mozambique LNG and Mozambique Rovuma Venture (MRV) projects for the onshore and offshore LNG facilities and infrastructure associated with both projects. The joint EIA assessed the project’s potential environmental, social, and health impacts.
The EIA report was approved by the Ministry of Coordination of Environmental Affairs (MICOA) in June 2014. Following the EIA, we have pro-actively undertaken various additional environmental assessments to support our project, including:
- An environmental impact assessment associated with the replacement village’s construction and operations (The Replacement Village EIA Addendum).
- A number of Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) considering project changes and associated impacts since the LNG EIA was completed.
- Discrete environmental assessments—focusing on project-related structures located outside of the project area (e.g., 33kV power line, Palma- Afungi Road).
The Ministry of Land, Environment and Rural Development (MITADER), now known as the Ministry or Land and Environment, MTA, issued the project environmental licenses in 2018, following the approval of the Resettlement Plan.
