More than a hundred young Mozambicans in Cabo Delgado trained with the support of the Mozambique LNG

More than a hundred young people recently graduated, earning degrees in courses such as construction mechanics (welding) and hospitality and tourism, at the Industrial and Commercial Institute of Pemba (IICP), during a ceremony that took place in the capital of Cabo Delgado. The 119 newly graduates – 90 hotel and tourism workers and 29 welders – join the other 76 graduates from the IICP who graduated in July with the support of the Mozambique LNG project, operated by TotalEnergies EP Mozambique Area 1 Limitada.

The 195 graduates are part of the contingent of 390 young people from Cabo Delgado to be trained by its technical-professional training institution in the first 12-month cycle of the training program, within the scope of a Memorandum of Understanding between IICP and Mozambique LNG project. The document stipulates a financement, by the Mozambique LNG project, for training in the areas of oil and gas processing, industrial electricity, general mechanics, and hospitality and tourism, in addition to the creation of infrastructural conditions for technical-professional teaching and learning in the IICP.

Deolinda Abdul Henrique, from Mocímboa da Praia, who graduated in hospitality and tourism management, is one of the new graduates. The young woman is fully aware of the importance of training for her future life, when she finally enters the job market: “I came with expectations, but when I arrived here, I got more than I expected. I learned a lot. I am very grateful for the opportunity, and I hope there are more opportunities for other generations to help the Province.”

A state of mind shared by Mussa Mussa Nfalume, from Macomia, another recent graduated, this time in welding, a specialty that she says will bring him great opportunities.

During the delivery of the diplomas, Esperança Solange Pinto, Provincial representative of Social Services in Cabo Delgado, praised the initiative of the Mozambique LNG project and highlighted its contribution to the creation of a contingent of national labor with highly skilled know-how: “The implementation of this project is of great value to the Government. First, it gives professional technical education institutions the opportunity to demonstrate what they know how to do, which is to train young people for success, or to leverage what their learning process. More focus needs to be given to technical-vocational education as a way of empowering young people, providing them with more training to improve their socioeconomic condition.”

Leonardo Nhavoto, Local Content Manager at TotalEnergies EP Mozambique Area 1 Limitada, also pointed out that “the graduation of these 119 young people gives a tangible expression, once again, to our Local Content Strategy, which is in line with the Single Local Content Program established by the Government, of promote the training of companies, entrepreneurs and human resources in Mozambique, so that they can contribute to the sustainable development of the country”.

“The training of young Mozambicans, aiming to generate qualified employment to respond to the growing needs of the national job market, is one of our commitments and is reflected in our CapacitaMoz initiative”, he added.
