Mozambique LNG: Partnerships to maximise local content

In April 2023, the Mozambique LNG Project operated by TotalEnergies, held a business partnership workshop in Paris in close collaboration with the Local Content Technical Group and EVOLEN. The event brought together more than 35 international and Mozambican companies as well as business associations, in an initiative aimed at boosting local content by promoting an environment of skill-transfer in technology and capacity building obtained through partnerships with multiple players of the sector.

Maxime Rabilloud, Country Chair at TotalEnergies Mozambique, stated that “Mozambique LNG is an extensive project, which due to its size and resources, has the ability to develop a full industry – and that is our purpose. We consider that it is beyond fundamental for the Mozambique LNG to have access to the many companies based in Mozambique, that are well equipped and able to provide some of the best services nationwide. The development and consolidation of Mozambican companies is a long-term commitment, to which it is critical to foresee the connection of foreign companies located in countries such as France, for instance, where the oil & gas industry is well developed, and benefits of a dense ecosystem made of long-serving companies. Today we are laying the cornerstone for oncoming interactions between Mozambican and French companies, that should and will result in valuable partnerships for both sides.”

Leonardo Nhavoto, head of local content of the Mozambique LNG Project, stated that part of the local content strategy relies on the combination of French and Mozambican companies, in order to foster investment, technology and experience. Nhavoto added that “we understand that for Mozambique LNG to optimize its local content it is going to be very important that we create and enable and environment for know-how transfer, technology and also for the training of local workforce.”

Also in attendance, members of the Local Content Technical Committee as well as representatives of Mozambican Business associations voiced their enthusiasm with the workshop, stating that the future collaboration between French and Mozambican companies are critical not only for the companies, but also for the sustainable economic development  of the country as a whole. According to them, the oil and gas industry is complex and sometimes challenging, so this exchange of skills should equip local companies with the right set of tools for them to be competitive and ready to take full advantage of the many opportunities that emerge within the industry.
