TotalEnergies presents a market study and promotes certification of companies in Cabo Delgado
TotalEnergies EP Mozambique Area 1, Limitada, as operator of the Mozambique LNG project, presented today, in Pemba, a market study, carried out by Deloitte, which maps the economic reality of Cabo Delgado and assesses the province’s competences in terms of supply of goods and services, providing market information on various actors, including companies, business associations and technical vocational training institutes.
The study also maps out the various programs to support the socio-economic development of the province, as well as the respective sources of funding, to allow a better alignment between the programs and avoid duplication of efforts.
This market study, carried out within the scope of the review of the Local Content Plan of the Mozambique LNG Project, made it possible to identify the three critical sectors that could stimulate the local market and all value chains, namely civil construction, transport and logistics, and general services.
The study also allowed the establishment of an updated database of 1137 companies, the quantitative and qualitative analysis of the ecosystems of the main actors in each of the sectors and mapping of the main sources of demand and supply in the province, within the three sectors mentioned.
On the other hand, the aforementioned study points out the needs for technical and professional education and training, and identifies potential synergies to be established between these needs and the proposed Single Local Content Program, to promote activities that might already be underway.
At the study presentation ceremony, there was also the official delivery ceremony of ISO 9001 certificates to 11 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) from the Province of Cabo Delgado, which were part of the Program for Preparing and Obtaining Certification for SMEs promoted by TotalEnergies, in partnership with the National Institute for Standardization and Quality (INNOQ). The certified companies operate in different sectors of activity, such as Services, Civil Construction, Electrical Services, Production, Procurement and Custom Brokers. Certified SMEs will also benefit from a two-year follow-up for the renewal of certification. Nocif Magaia, Provincial Director of Industry and Commerce of Cabo Delgado, welcomed the certification of companies and stated that the market study “responds to the aim of strengthening the integration and growth of local industries and the entire emerging private sector in the value chain of megaprojects, based on local content, favoring small and medium-sized Mozambican companies”.
Maxime Rabilloud, representative of TotalEnergies in Mozambique, said: “carrying out this market study and certifying Mozambican companies prove our commitment to contributing to promoting local content and, therefore, contributing to the sustainable development of Mozambique, in general and Cabo Delgado in particular. Although our Mozambique LNG project remains in force majeure, and therefore with operations suspended, we keep investing in local content actions for socio-economic development in Mocímboa da Praia and Palma, which have already created more than 1300 permanent jobs”.
“In close coordination with the Government of Mozambique and other stakeholders, we will continue to invest in the promotion of local content, including through the dissemination of information of commercial interest, the training of Mozambican companies and human resources, the promotion of commercial relations and the integration of Mozambican companies in the business opportunities created by our company”, Rabilloud stated.
