Water Supply System Inaugurated in Paquitequete, Pemba

The Paquitequete neighborhood in Pemba, Cabo Delgado province, now has improved access to water. Around 5,000 families are benefiting from a newly rehabilitated water supply system, funded by the Mozambique LNG Foundation, and inaugurated yesterday, March 18, 2025, by the President of the Pemba Municipal Council, Satar Abdulgani.

With an investment exceeding 18.5 million meticais, the project involved a complete reconstruction of the water infrastructure, which now includes underground and elevated tanks with a total capacity of 330,000 liters, a distribution network with five water points, and a solar-powered pumping system. In addition to enhancing the community’s quality of life, the project also features a local management committee to ensure its sustainability.

The Chairman of the Executive Board of the Mozambique LNG Foundation, Maxime Rabilloud, expressed his satisfaction with the initiative:

“We are very pleased to contribute to bringing more water to the residents of Paquitequete. Supporting the well-being of communities and promoting the sustainable development of Cabo Delgado is at the core of the Mozambique LNG Foundation’s mission.”

Rabilloud further emphasized: “The Mozambique LNG Foundation, established by the companies behind the Mozambique LNG project, reflects the project’s long-term commitment. Our dedication goes beyond the areas surrounding our operations—we are invested in the socio-economic development of the entire Cabo Delgado Province.”

Pemba Municipal Council President, Satar Abdulgani, highlighted the system’s importance for public health and community well-being.

“With the inauguration of this system, we are taking a concrete step toward improving living conditions for the residents of Paquitequete and the entire Municipality of Pemba. Access to clean water is not only a fundamental right but also a crucial factor for public health, helping to prevent waterborne diseases and uphold the dignity of local families.”

He also called on the community to use the system responsibly to ensure its longevity.

“We urge all residents of Paquitequete to use this system wisely to guarantee its sustainability. We also appreciate the establishment of the Water Management Committee, which will play a vital role in this process,” he added.
