The professional training of 390 young people starts in Cabo Delgado

Today, under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Industrial and Commercial Institute of Pemba (IICP) and TotalEnergies EP Mozambique Area 1 Limitada, as operator of the Mozambique LNG project, the technical-professional training of the first 90 young trainees started in Cabo Delgado. This is the first group from a total of 390 beneficiaries who are expected to be trained in an estimated period of 12 months.

The 90 trainees, mostly displaced from Palma and Mocímboa da Praia, will attend the hotel and tourism course for 3 months, which includes fields of expertise such as reception and floors (rooms), restaurant and bar, as well as gastronomy and culinary arts. In this group, gender parity was ensured.

In addition to the hotel and tourism course that started today with the 90 trainees, courses in oil and gas processing, industrial electricity and general mechanics are due to start in March of the current year, covering the remaining 300 young people. These trainings are funded by the Mozambique LNG project, within the scope of its Capacitamoz initiative.

Esperança Pinto, representative of the Director of the Provincial Social Affairs Service of Cabo Delgado, stated that “in this first training cycle, the training of 90 young people from Cabo Delgado in the Hotel and Tourism courses is foreseen, as a way to open paths for the potential insertion of our trainees in companies, whether TotalEnergies or others. In short, these synergies bring us ever closer to an important employer, which is the private sector. With the implementation of this memorandum, we expect a greater growth in the employability index, by promoting self-employment, since the trainees will be equipped with tools that can allow them to pursue their skills acquired during training, being able to employ even more young people in the future”.

Leonardo Nhavoto, Local Content Manager at TotalEnergies EP Mozambique Area 1 Limitada, said: “Although we are still in force majeure and, therefore, with our operations suspended, we remain committed to the development of the country and of Cabo Delgado, in particular. Today, with the kick-off of the training of 90 young trainees out of the 390 beneficiaries who will be trained at the IICP, we take another important step towards the materialization of our commitment. It is another important stage in the implementation of our Local Content Strategy, which is in line with the Unique Program of Local Content established by the Government. In fact, the 390 young people who will be trained here at the ICCP will integrate a group of 2500 young people who will be trained over a period of 5 years in Cabo Delgado, in a partnership already underway between TotalEnergies and IFPELAC, within the scope of our initiative, CapacitaMoz.”

CapacitaMoz is an initiative led by the Mozambique LNG project, operated by TotalEnergies, which works as a platform to train Mozambicans. In the context of this project, capacity building is defined as the process by which individuals and organizations obtain, improve and retain skills, knowledge, competence, experience, tools, equipment and/or other resources necessary to efficiently carry out their work.
